Blue Margarita?
The Blue Agave Margaritas at The Old Town Tortilla Factory in Scottsdale Arizona are the inspiration for this Halloween Party cocktail. Years later and I’ve never forgotten about them! Tequila, lime and a delicious citrus flavor. Since color variations make interesting cocktails, a blue margarita is perfect for Halloween!
The “blue” in the Moonlight Margaritas comes from blue curacao. Derived from the dried peel of the citrus fruit, laraha and aptly named after the Dutch island Curacao where it’s grown. It’s blue because dye is added to the liqueur which gives it the trademark color.
Substitute blue curaçao for any citrus flavored liqueur where triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier would typically be used. Mix blue curaçao with colors like red to achieve a black tone which is also perfect for Halloween. Try the Dark as Night Vodka Cranberry which mixes the red of cranberry juice with the blue curaçao! Delicious!
Moonlight Margarita Ingredients
The Moonlight Margarita is essentially a classic margarita so the ingredients are quite simple.
- Blanco (Silver) tequila
- Blue Curaçao
- Margarita Salt (optional)
- A high quality margarita mix (or fresh limes and agave nectar). If you’re making a large batch opt for the simpler method of using a mix. Make sure to get a brand made with minimal ingredients such as Powell & Mahoney or Tres Agave which is organic.
Halloween Party
You don’t have to sacrifice taste to make a drink Halloween worthy. They may be blue but are absolutely delicious! The Moonlight Margaritas are a great touch for any Halloween party!
